Simple but elegant, the feathered star patchwork pattern is pretty in the single block.

Red Feathered Star Lap Quilt Throw

I can still remember the first time I saw a feathered star quilt. It was hanging at a quilt show, in the back row, without any ribbon, not exactly a reject but not loved, either. The young quilter who had made it was sitting with her mother close by, although I didn't know that at first.

As I made a bee line for the quilt, I told the lady sitting next to the feathered star quilt this was one of my all-time favorite patchwork quilt patterns and I really liked the one she was sitting by. She beamed at the young quilter sitting next to her and I realized then the young woman next to her had made it.

Like most patchwork patterns, the patchwork patterns can take on different designs based on what fabrics are used. In this red feathered star quilt, reds, white and beige fabrics have been used, a basic elegant color palette that makes this design even more beautiful.

Here's the feathered star quilt in a bigger design with the feathered stars together:

Several feathered stars form the center of this red feathered star quilt throw.

Combined with the detailed border with the red stars, this is a lovely throw that will add an elegant touch to any room. I would be tempted to used is a quilted wall hanging so I could enjoy the design whenever I looked at it, wouldn't you?

Naughty reindeer?

You bet, or at least mischievous ones are featured in this charming, brand new 50x60-inch Reindeer Games lap quilt throw.

In addition to the furry reindeer, I loved the trouble they were getting into in each of the quilt blocks.

Talented reindeer, this one is showing off balancing a Christmas tree on his nose.

Maybe it's not trouble, more like highly talented. After all, they have most of the year to practice their juggling and balancing skills before Santa needs them.

Reindeer also need to be able to carry presents and fly at the same time.

Holiday Traditions Quilt Throw Wall Hanging

What are some of your holiday traditions?

We didn't have too many set in stone but we did keep to a few of the basics: hanging stockings on a mantle, baking cookies, making gingerbread houses, decorating a tree. This brand new, all cotton quilt throw includes some of those traditions, and more.

A snowman keeps a red cardinal company in this traditional Christmas snow scene.

A snowman keeps a red cardinal company in this traditional Christmas snow scene.

Although we grew up in South America, and a new bathing suit was part of our Christmas gift traditions, we heard about snow. It was the promise of seeing snow that got us excited about our move up north. I still get excited at the prospect of seeing the first snow, don't you?

Hanging stockings from a mantle is another Christmas tradition.

Hanging stockings from a mantle is another Christmas tradition.

This brand new, imported from India quilt also has a sweet scene of stockings getting hung on a fireplace mantle. To personalize, you could add names, or initials, those are teeny, tiny stockings, almost the size of stockings for mice. And yes, I have a little stocking on my fireplace for the cats, and the Christmas mouse.

In our home, baking cookies was a favorite pastime even when I had stepchildren.

And what is Christmas without gingerbread - houses, cookies, ornaments. Love the smell of gingerbread anything cooking in the oven so was enchanted to find these little gingerbread cookies having fun in another Holiday Traditions quilt block.

What holiday traditions do you have in your family?

Happy Holidays Cardinals Quilt Throw Wall Hanging

Living in Missouri, it is also hard not to appreciate all of the red cardinals-related references, from baseball teams to kids groups. One of the signs of the holidays for me is seeing red cardinals in my feeders when it snows. There is nothing so pretty as the male red birds against the white countryside.

I'm reminded of that vision every time I see Happy Holidays Cardinals Quilt Throw Wall Hanging, only I don't have to worry about driving in the snow storm.

These brand new, imported quilt throws have a warm, country feel thanks to the patterned fabrics and simple, applique red cardinal birds.

Santa Workshop Quilt Throw Wall Hanging

I really should have a Santa's Workshop Quilt Throw Wall Hanging in my business office, sometimes it feels like I am another one of those little pointed-ear workers madly trying to get projects done - hopefully, in time!

This charming, all cotton imported from India lap quilt throw features very detailed applique and embroidered elves, some working on favorite holiday traditions. One of the reasons I love lap quilt throws is that they can so quickly change the decor of a room, either by hanging them or tossing one over the back of an easy chair or sofa.

This one would definitely be fun as a holiday quilt wall hanging in a den, entryway or sewing room.

Did you grow up with trains under the Christmas tree? So did I and this elf is putting the finishing touches on a train for a good little boy, or girl.

Red Double Wedding Ring Throw Wall Hanging

Christmas has become one of the favorite times of the year for weddings - well, any time of the year becomes special when one has a wedding but the trend has been to mark the day with a ceremony around this time of year.

One of the couples included the daughter of one of our long-time customers. She wanted something appropriate for the wedding party as gifts but not too sentimental so I located these red and white double wedding ring lap quilt throws.

The double wedding ring patchwork quilt pattern has been a favorite wedding gift for decades. Considered one of the hardest quilt patterns to make, many quilters will bypass even trying to make this design because of the curves in the pattern.

Red Double Wedding Ring Throw Wall Hanging is finished with hand quilted flowers in the center.

Molly's Tree

Can you guess that this is a Halloween tree? What gave it away, the purple?!

Can you guess that this is a Halloween tree? What gave it away, the purple?!

Molly's Tree

Sometimes when I go through a quilt show, I miss some of the subtleties of some of the work and this tree is one of those quilts I have grown to appreciate since I first saw it.

I love trees so the subject matter is a favorite. I vaguely remember pondering about the fabric color choices but didn't give it much thought until I was revisiting some of the work that was displayed at Piece and Plenty's 2015 bi-annual quilt guild show in Rolla, Missouri.

Now trees do change color in the fall but when I think of purple, I think of Halloween and cats and pumpkins. And apparently so did Kathy Turner, Molly's Mom, who made this quilt!

And here's the reason why this quilt was made with purple.

And here's the reason why this quilt was made with purple.

The other quilt element this quilted tree demonstrates well is the power, and effect, of quilting on the finished product.

Quilting reminds me of looking at a dress on a hangar. One doesn't know the full impact of the dress until one puts it on. Same thing with a quilt, one doesn't get the full effect of the work until it is quilted.

Without quilting, this would be a yellow tree on purple. With the quilting, there is a suggestion of wind and ghosts and ghouls and who knows what else is lurking in the purple, don't you think?

Boo!

Midnight in the Garden Quilt Wall Hanging

Midnight in Garden quilt wall hanging.

Midnight in Garden Quilt Wall Hanging

When I think of Halloween, black cats play a prominent place in those thoughts. My first cat was a gorgeous black cat with yellow eyes, and this quilt wall hanging reminded me of her.

"Midnight in the Garden" quilt wall hanging was shared at Piece and Plenty Quilt Guild's 2015 bi-annual show in Rolla, Missouri. Unfortunately the description attached the quilt was a complaint about not being able to use Pay Pal to pay for the entry so I don't have a lot of details about the quilt.

It was made by Dorreene Reynolds and is 23-inches by 19-inches, a nice wall hanging size, by the way. Installed at the right place on a wall this charming quilt wall hanging could easily "fill in" for a missing window.

Besides the black cat's green eyes, I love the circular flowers among the applique greenery.

And why is the cat in the garden at midnight?

Check out the other garden visitor in the bottom left hand corner.

October Quilt Wall Hanging

October quilt wall hanging from 2015 Piece and Plenty Quilt Guild show.

October Quilt Wall Hanging

I have to confess, October is one of my all-time favorite months out of the four seasons.

October is the leading fall month in Missouri, a time when temperatures start to dip into sweater weather and trees bedeck themselves in gorgeous colors before leaves fall and grey days slip in.

Not to mention the sunflowers and pumpkins, lots and lots of pumpkins. So many that I have learned to buy extra if I still want pumpkins for Thanksgiving because most get ordered, and sold, for fall decorating and Halloween.

These landmarks of the month and charmingly detailed in this applique October quilt wall hanging that was featured at the 2015 bi-annual Piece and Plenty Quilt Guild show in Rolla. Although less obvious, I loved the "flying geese" triangles over the patchwork leaves in the top right corner, another wonderful sighting that marks the change in season.

I missed getting the card with the information on who made this charming quilt but it appears to have won a second place ribbon. Nicely done!

Anything you would have added to mark October in Missouri?

Midnight Blooms Quilted Wall Hanging at Piece and Plenty's 2005 Quilt Festival in Rolla, Mo.

Midnight Blooms Quilted Wall Hanging

I get a lot of inspiration from my garden. I also enjoy visiting quilt shows to see what other artists are making. The bi-annual Piece and Plenty Quilt Guild show in my hometown is a delight and one that lets me see what friends do with their fabric stashes.

This was one of my favorite small wall hangings, Midnight Blooms Quilted Wall Hanging. Quilts make wonderful wall art and this little gem would be a focal point in any room.

The color, red, is a personal favorite. Some quilters tell me they are afraid of that bold color but I love it, it not only easily adds an accent to a quilt but becomes a beautiful stage for detailed applique work.

Love the descriptions with each of the quilts at the Piece and Plenty Quilt Guild 2015 show.

Love the descriptions with each of the quilts at the Piece and Plenty Quilt Guild 2015 show.

Picking the right fabric tones is an art form all on its own. I have seen too many beautifully-made quilts with poor fabric choices but this is not one of them. The red fabrics are just the right combination of reds, complimentary to each other without competing.

The marbled border fabric has some yellow, which is nicely reflected in the other red fabrics used in the center block.

In addition to the color, the applique birds and branches remind me of the trees surrounding my house. Also busy with feathered visitors, this handmade quilted wall hanging nicely captures the summer joy I hear in my garden.

The other major factor in this quilt is the quilting, beautiful details, you can see it in the cream white background close to the birds and branches.

Midnight Blooms Quilted Wall Hanging received special recognition for the beautiful work.

Others apparently thought this was a special work, too, it won 3rd Place in the Special Exhibit category.

Aren't those ribbons special? They were made out of felt and what a charming idea to make the top into a dahlia-looking flower.

Nice job, Alyce and Lee!

It's temporary, just for shipping in the event the box gets damaged. It happens very infrequently but when it does, I don't want our customers getting a damaged gift quilt at their end.

Once you get the quilt, remove from plastic and discard. To best store the quilt, fold like a sleeping bag. If you want to protect it, tuck the quilt into s cotton pillow case or wrap in a piece of cotton fabric.

How do you currently store your quilts?

All Blue Double Wedding Ring Quilt

Our all blue double wedding ring quilt features a nice variety of blue-toned fabrics.

Our all blue double wedding ring quilt features a nice variety of blue-toned fabrics.

All Blue Double Wedding Ring Quilt

Double wedding ring quilts are one of the most popular wedding and anniversary gifts. When I started Bluebird Gardens in 1998, it was one of the most requested patterns by beginning quilters, not something I recommend. The traditional patchwork design is one of the hardest patchwork quilts to make, which is why we started to make and offer them.

This all blue double wedding ring quilt in a king size was inspired by blue flowers in my garden: spring-blooming bluebells are the light blue, false indigo Lobelia suggested the darker navy blue tones.  Since blue is still the leading favorite bedroom color, I thought weaving a variety of blue-toned fabrics would help the quilt fit into a variety of blue home decor choices.

The high quality cotton fabrics include a white cotton with blue flowers to a solid navy blue fabric at the ring corners.

A wide range of blue fabric colors make this a very versatile gift quilt.

A wide range of blue fabric colors make this a very versatile gift quilt.

The double wedding ring quilt was made in the larger king size so that it can be used on both king-size and queen-size beds. Most beds these days have extra padding, making the traditional quilt sizes a little short on the sides.

By selecting a larger size, the quilt will definitely cover the bed sides and, if one size larger than the bed, provide full coverage down the sides.

I still recommend to customers that they measure the mattress size and the height of the mattress to make sure the quilt they are selecting will give them the home decor look they are wanting.

This made in USA quilt was also finished with renewable, sustainable bamboo fill, which adds a warmth similar to cotton but eliminates the environmentally-damaged process for harvesting cotton.

The quilt is machine quilted for easy care. Machine quilting makes the washing and drying of this double wedding ring quilt easy in a home washing machine and dryer. Wash on cold; dry on cool.

The flower inside each of the rings adds a lovely dimension to the overall design.

Double wedding ring quilts are wonderful to personalize by adding a couple's name and wedding date in a corner block.
