Diamond Hexies Handmade Custom Quilt

When I think of hexagons in a handmade quilt, I think of Flower Garden handmade quilts like Vintage Martha’s Flower Garden custom handmade quilt. Diamond Hexies handmade custom quilt is a new take on the use of paper pieced hexagons and I love the overall look.

Diamond Hexies custom handmade quilt was featured during Piece and Plenty’s bi-annual quilt festival October 2019 in Rolla, Missouri.

If you are a beekeeper, Diamond Hexies custom handmade quilt will remind you of a frame of bee bread where bees store flower pollen in honey for later use. Think of it as a bee’s larder for feeding baby bees.

If you look at the various hexagon collections, within each block there are different fabrics, all scraps from the quilt maker’s fabric stashes. One of the thoughts I have had over the many years is to spend one winter making teeny tiny flower garden handmade quilts out of very little hexagons.

I may still do it!

I would not have known this if it had not happened to me. The dyes used in blue fabrics can cause an allergic reaction.

I didn't buy this Bless This House handmade quilt for the obvious reason but it is a good idea if you're looking for a handmade quilt you can easily personalize. It was the red fabric with white dot yo-yos, the traditional little circles of fabric pulled together to form the charming shapes. See them as the apples?

The apples have clear fronts that look like a shiny accent when not in use.

Now one doesn't see yo-yos very often any more. They are tedious to make although they do use up some of those leftover fabric pieces we love and can't make ourselves give away, or toss.

The red yo-yos add wonderful details to this brand new, imported 50x60 inch Bless This House handmade quilt. The size makes it a great option for a quilted wall hanging, especially if the apples are embellished with photos.

You can easily personalize by adding photos into the apples for a personalized quilt gift.

Eleven apples have clear pockets for photos or inspirational sayings and quotes, maybe a combination of both. The photos and other additions can be easily changed.

Bless This House handmade lap quilt is a soft quilt made out of a fluffy polyester fill so it can be used as a chair quilt. 

I would still be tempted to hang it on a wall somewhere so I could enjoy the little garden scene, wouldn't you?

Do you know the expression "Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me?" 

I thought about that little saying when I first saw this custom handmade quilt on display at the Piece and Plenty Quilt Guild annual show in Rolla, Missouri. Not that I believe those words because words can hurt. Just think about all of the bullying we see around us today.

Words can also heal. And elevate. And affirm....such power from 26 letters in the alphabet!

As someone who learned to speak English as my fourth language, and struggled with it - still do some days - every word was a new discovery. So I could relate to the description that accompanied this handmade quilt by Kathi Crawford:

Love the story behind every custom handmade quilt almost as much as the quilt itself.

As I was perusing the blocks for the first word Kathi had featured, I smiled. Who would have thought this word was worth a block all by itself, but it "did."

Such a simple word "did" but it also reminded me of all of those unfinished project piles....

Another very special word in this custom handmade quilt, and one that is precious when one truly finds one. I can remember my mother saying in life one is lucky to have a handful of people one can truly call "friend."

A word that means so much, and we have so few of them really in our lives, a "friend."
