Personalized Hanky Quilt

As a high school graduation gift for her daughter, this customer wanted us to incorporate photos we printed onto fabric in the center of the blocks of this handkerchief quilt. Not all of them, just enough to highlight some of her daughter's favorite school memories.

Nice to have the handkerchief's handy!

Printed Photos Personalized Throw

Sometimes there's not enough time to make something from scratch so why not start with something ready made.

We printed photo collages onto our treated fabric, then added it to a ready made quilt. Picking the right throw to compliment photo colors helped make this quilt look like it was custom-made.

Personalize with Bridal Flowers

Sometimes our customers like to personalize their custom double wedding ring quilts with photos and embroidery.

The bride's best friend sent us a copy of the wedding announcement, which had the flowers the bride would be carrying down the aisle. T

he best friend didn't know what the flowers were but we did and quickly added these white orchids to the corner circles of the custom double wedding ring quilt.

Pretty, don't you think?

Modern Version of Friendship Quilt

Many decades ago, friendship quilts were very popular. Each friend would make a pre-determined block and add their name. The blocks would then be sewn together to form the gift quilt.

I love this friendship quilt made recently by an area nursing home. Each block was hand-embroidered with a friend's name and an embellishment like a flower and the name of each corporate sponsor. It was auctioned off as a fundraiser for the nursing facility.

Friendly thing to do, don't you think?

Thanks to Mom Personalized Wildflowers Throw

This family wanted their Mom to feel extra special on her birthday.
We started brain-storming adjectives and ended up embroidering our brand new, all cotton Wildflowers Throw in brick red embroidery. Each adjective was carefully discussed and added to the list, words reflecting all of the qualities family members saw in their Mom.

I have only one word for this family: beautiful.

Along Came a Spider

It really is all in the details.

When we make clothing quilts, we take off buttons and other embellishments so we can add them back when the quilting is completed.

One of our custom quilts out of clothing had a number of ribbons. This little spider seemed to come back to life when we added back the orange with black pocka dot ribbon!

A Woman and Her Horses

Teresa loves horses.
She designed this original quilt for herself featuring 20 different embroidered horses in country colors. One of our returning customers saw it and after buying a quilt for her daughter, ordered a horse quilt for herself. Can you see how the plaid and blue denim corners suggest horse shoes? The red bandana is a nod to country living. We call this custom quilt "Teresa's Horses."

Why Custom Quilts Take Time

The site visitor was charming on the phone, calling before 6 am to ask if she paid us a "rush" fee, could we get a custom quilt started and finished for her in a week.
It wasn't that we didn't want to help but making a double wedding ring quilt, one of the hardest patchwork quilt designs, in a week is just not possible. It takes an average of 4 specialists to make one quilt, and we get them made in as little as 3 months - less if the quilt is simpler. "So how come I read some people can make a quilt in a week" she persisted.

Recycle T-Shirts Into Quilts

We all have them, too many favorite thirst we can't bear to toss.
T-shirts can easily be made into custom t-shirt quilts, preserving those logos and favorite sayings. We stabilize the shirts so they don't stretch, then sew them together in blocks.

Machine quilting keeps layers together and makes the quilt easy to wash and dry. If you keep the same design on both sides, you can also have the quilt backing made of similar-sized blocks as the t-shirts.

Make Table Cloth Into Quilt!

One of our customers had a favorite aunt whose estate ran out of quilts to pass out to family members. In the place of a quilt, she was given a favorite table cloth used for family gatherings. Did I think we could make a quilt out of the table cloth, she asked.

After picking the best complimentary tone of solid burgundy fabric, I added panels around the table cloth to size it to a full size, 86x86 quilt. The custom table cloth quilt was finished with detailed machine quilting with a rose design, to compliment the cross-stitch embroidery on the table cloth. The customer had tears in her eyes when she saw it. She now also has a quilt with fond memories of her favorite aunt!

Add Printed Photos on Quilt

One way to quickly make a personalized gift is to add photos printed on fabric, then sew them on a quilt. Pick a quilt with favorite colors or a charming pattern such as handkerchief quilt. If you're not sure of colors, select something with a variety; that way the quilt will blend in with any room decor. I can print photos onto fabric; then you can cut them out and sew them on a quilt. We'll also be glad to do that for you!

Nuts About This Crazy Quilt

I am crazy over this brand new crazy quilt top from one of my talented piecing artists.

Look closely at it, she’s incorporated not only fabric remnants from other projects but the teeniest tiniest fabric pieces. And she says she does this to relax! I love Victorian crazy quilts. I even have one from 1910 hanging in my den but these teeny tiny pieces would drive me – well, you know.

Personalized Throws Great Gifts

Sometimes adding a personal touch to something practical is the perfect gift.

Take someone who lives alone, or who is heading to college away from home for the first time. Personalizing a favorite theme throw, such as a horses throw, with their name and birth date gives them something to curl up in when they're home sick. A throw is also a quick way to add a new theme, and focal point, to any room.

Do you use throws to quickly change the look of a room?

It’s All In the Ears

When one of four customers wanted a personalized appliqué dachshund quilt
design, I was ready.
Custom fabric colors, check.
Adding her dog names to collars, check.
How about flapping dog ears…
Well, no guarantee but we did everything we could to give the ears a
chance to flap. They’re made out of lightweight fabric and attached only
at the top so with a good wind…

Thought for Today

I wish I could meet her.

She’s expecting a child after a long ordeal with earlier unsuccessful attempts and we are making a special custom baby quilt for her.

We have been emailing about nursery colors and finally have our palette and saying she wants embroidered in the center of the baby quilt:

"Weeping may endure for a night but Joy comes in the morning. Psalms 30."
